When a technician tells a customer that their hard drive is damaged and needs to be replaced, the customer often asks, "Will all my data still be there on the new drive?" If they don't have the knowledge, it's natural for them not to know that data isn't transferred automatically. It's not strange or ignorant. Most customers think this way.
